Nashville Ballet Revives Swan Lake for 40th Season
The Nashville Ballet is set to celebrate the second half of its 40th season with a revival of Paul Vasterling's acclaimed production of Swan Lake, marking its return since 2018. Scheduled from February 27 to March 1, this refreshed rendition will feature several company dancers making their principal role debuts. Artistic director Nick Mullikin emphasizes the growth and maturity of the organization over the past eight years, showcasing a talented cast ready to engage audiences with this timeless tale of love and betrayal.
Swan Lake, originally composed in the late 1870s, tells the story of Princess Odette, cursed by a sorcerer and transformed into a swan. The ballet explores profound themes of love's unpredictability and the nature of betrayal. Unlike traditional interpretations that often conclude with tragedy, Nashville Ballet's version will offer a hopeful ending, aiming to introduce younger audiences to the art form. The production will be enhanced by Tchaikovsky's iconic score and the synergy of the corps de ballet and Nashville Symphony. This revival not only celebrates artistic collaboration but also invites the community to support and experience ballet in an accessible manner.

Swan Lake was a FEAST for the senses !!!
Beautiful, rich costumes ! Beautiful backdrops ! Beautiful and wonderfully sensitive dancing! It was a real pleasure to watch these performances (I sat through all 3 of them !) Jennifer Grapes, Priscilla Crommelin-Monnier and Kyana Goodyear danced the principal roles of Odette and Odile with beautiful sensitivity. I could "feel" their hearts as they danced. The supporting roles were also beautifully danced. I really loved the syncronicity, precision and energy of Laura de Guia Villalobos's and Jared Jacoby's performances as the Neapolitan Lady and Gentleman. The role of the Queen Mother was played with a real sense of regality. ...and not to be forgotten, the Corps de Ballet. Wow!! They came together so beautifully and their hand/arm movements were so sinuous, so graceful, that they truly captured the feeling and grace that we associate with swans. It left me with a feeling of awe and beauty...I just loved watching them dance and looked forward to seeing them with each performance. Great dancing comes from great feeling, the same as great acting, and you could feel that these dancers were really immersed in their characters as it showed in the sensitivity with which they danced/performed their roles. BRAVO !!!
